Even with all the economic turmoil, there is significant demand for property in Darlington. At Anthony Jones we aim to keep you fully informed as to all developments in the local market.

The breakdown of the development, scheduled for two parts, include:

  • 155 properties for sale
  • 150 homes for council tenants
  •

This is part of a scheme from the local council which aims to bring at least 1,000 new council properties to the area in the next ten years.

There is demand for homes to buy and rent, so developments which boost both of these markets is welcome.

Cllr Dulston spoke to the Northern Echo, saying: “This is our latest joint venture with Homes by Esh which is allowing us to bring much-needed homes to Darlington, including our own council homes. It is one of the largest own-build developments the council has done. The Homes by Esh properties are already proving popular, selling quickly off plan with around 30 per cent to people outside Darlington, and I’m sure our properties will be a big hit with would-be tenants too. Our vision is to build and develop strong and balanced communities, making sure properties are available for working families as well as older people and those in most need. All our new properties that have been completed so far have been very popular, with demand for all the developments far outstripping supply, and I’m sure this latest development will be just as popular.”

The new scheme will be close to the countryside, which is a hugely important thing for many prospective buyers and tenants these days. In recent years, the need for space and open areas has risen sharply, so being close to countryside and cycle paths is of benefit to many households.

Phil Brown, executive director of Homes by Esh, spoke to the Northern Echo, saying: “We aim to build neighbourhoods where communities can thrive and Elder Brook Park is no exception. We have been working with Darlington Borough Council for more than five years to improve the housing offer within the borough. As a developer, we are committed to building homes which are superior in quality with high specification design. Around 75 per cent of our subcontractors are local, employing up to 50 people a day on site including five apprentices, which supports local shops and the economy as a whole.”

Some of the local transport links located close to the site include:

  • The A1(M) and A66
  • Darlington railway station is around one and a half miles from the site
  • Teesside International Airport is just 5.5 miles from the site
  •

With Darlington town centre being three miles from the site, it is also close enough to be within daily reach for people. It is hoped work on the initial phase of the project will be concluded in winter of 2023.
