Improved infrastructure is vital for local areas

At Anthony Jones Properties, we love the local area, and we take a significant interest in the housing market. This means when a local news story arises, we can’t help but consider how it will impact the community, and what it will mean for the property market as a whole.

This is why news about significant improvements to rail travel in, out and around Darlington is of interest to us, and anyone who has a passing interest in local property. A multi-million pound funding package sounds promising, and a sum of up to £80m has been pledged by the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA).

Some of the improvements set to take place include:

  • Direct trains running between Darlington and Hartlepool
  • Improvements to the railway station at Teesside Airport
  • The implementation of trackless trams in Darlington town centre

It is believed that £40m is required to create the direct link to Hartlepool, but this offers a lot of benefits. A quicker, and direct, route between these towns creates commuter benefits, it makes life easier for people, and it is likely to drive new business around these areas too. Anything which makes an area more accessible is of benefit to local businesses, as well as the obvious benefits to homeowners.

Significant improvements are required at station

Anyone who has used Teesside Airport station in recent times knows how badly it has aged, and it has been in an unsafe state. This led to the service being downgraded, and then removed, so these changes are essential to open this route again. It is believed that £20m is required to build a new station, and to improve access to the airport terminal.

Again, this is a significant amount of money in challenging times, but it can generate traffic, making the local area more viable for people and businesses. There is no denying Darlington will benefit from improvements like these, and if the town becomes a more vibrant and welcoming space, it can only benefit current residents while drawing more people to the local area.

The other area of work includes improvements to digital infrastructure to set up trams in Darlington. This is also set to cost around £20m, and would see a circular hop-on and hop-off service, allowing greater access to critical destinations in the town. While the precise routes haven’t been published, anything which makes it easier for people to get around town is of benefit.

Improvements will generate greater demand for Darlington houses

We’re enthused to see these changes, and we think it will place Darlington in a more positive light for many people. There have been steps forward with respect to employment opportunities in Darlington, so it’s pleasing to see plans in place to enhance transport options here too. You need everything in place to make a significant impact on how people feel about a space, and it looks as though work on making Darlington more attractive is on its way.

Whether you want to move to the area, move in the area, or think this is the ideal time to sell up to capitalise on increased demand in Darlington, we are the local estate agents you can trust.
