Culture is good for a community

You know Anthony Jones Properties champions local people, and we celebrate local wins. We think there’s a great deal to like about life in Darlington, and there’s been some great news for the town as we head into the festive period.

The incredible Hopetown Darlington has just scooped up a prestigious North East Culture Award for Best Museum or Cultural Venue – and we couldn't be more thrilled.

This isn't just another award. It's a brilliant recognition of the museum's incredible work in showcasing our town's remarkable railway heritage. Up against some seriously impressive competition, Hopetown has proven that Darlington's cultural scene is truly something special.

A run of victories is always pleasing!

What makes this even more exciting is that it follows hot on the heels of two other significant accolades from VisitEngland – the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme and Welcome awards. It's like a hat-trick of success for this local gem!

For local homeowners and potential buyers, this is more than just good news. It's another shining example of why Darlington is such a vibrant, culturally rich place to live. Museums like Hopetown don't just preserve history – they bring a community to life, attract visitors, and add real character to our wonderful town.

Whether you're considering selling your home or just love living in Darlington, moments like these remind us why this area is so special. It's not just about bricks and mortar – it's about belonging to a community with a proud heritage and an exciting future.

Congratulations to everyone at Hopetown Darlington – you've made us all incredibly proud!

Leona White-Hannant is the Hopetown Darlington’s Development Director, and she spoke to The Northern Echo saying: “I am delighted that Hopetown Darlington has won the North East Culture Award for Best Museum 2024. It is fantastic that our new visitor attraction, which only opened in July of this year, has been acknowledged by the panel as the best museum in the region. It is a testament to all the hard work from the whole team to not only give visitors the best experience, but to help celebrate and promote our railway heritage."

Councillor Libby McCollom is the cabinet member for Local Services, and she spoke to The Northern Echo, saying: “I am incredibly proud of this fantastic achievement for Hopetown Darlington. This award shows that Hopetown is excelling in its mission to tell Darlington’s pioneering railway heritage to all generations through playful and innovative ways. Hopetown Darlington is a special jewel in the crown for tourism in Darlington and the wider region.”

We know an award like this isn’t going to drive new people to Darlington, but when people take on board all the positive changes happening locally, we know there are always buyers looking for property. If you are looking to sell your Darlington home, speak with the local property market specialists with a strong track record in selling Darlington houses.
