When it comes to buyers finding a perfect home, or households feeling settled, there is so much to think about outside of the property. Local surroundings are essential, and it is no exaggeration to state the availability and condition of local parks is essential in making people feel at home.
- South Park
- West Park
These parks are consistently recognised as being brilliant parks, offering a clean place to socialise. This is the 16th year South Park has received this award and the 8th year West Park has been rewarded in this manner.
Councillor Andy Keir is the deputy leader of the council, and he spoke about the accolade, saying: “We’re thrilled that once again South Park and West Park have achieved Green Flag Award status. This award is very much down to the efforts of our staff, Friends groups and the many other volunteers who work so hard to look after our parks so they can be enjoyed by all.”
Old and new parks shine in Darlington
South Park is a traditional setting for families, the oldest park in the local area. A great range of activities and events take place in South Park, and the location offers a skate park, a bowling green, play areas, a café and a lake.
West Park isn’t even 20 years old, so to clock up eight Green Flags is an indicator of its quality and high standard. The contemporary park has a great range of open spaces, sculptures, wetlands, woods and poetry inscriptions around the park.
Keep Britain Tidy’s accreditation manager Paul Todd also spoke about the awards, saying: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making South Park and West Park worthy of a Green Flag Award. The two parks provide vital green space for the community in Darlington. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure they maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
Green space is vital for helping people settle in a community
It might not be the first thing that springs to mind when looking for a home or considering your location, but greenery is vital for a community. The importance of suitable outdoor space is more important now than ever, and this has come to the fore in recent years.
With Darlington having fantastic parks and open spaces, residents know if they need a break from their home, or want somewhere to meet with friends, they have options not far from home. You don’t need to spend any money to enjoy the parks of Darlington, which means they’re open for all!
