The right shade can work wonders when selling property

As we embrace the vibrant energy of spring, it's the perfect season to consider deep-cleaning or renovating your home. This is good for all homeowners, but if you are thinking about selling your home, this is the ideal time to do so. The longer, sunlit days not only uplift spirits but also enhance the viewing experience for potential buyers. However, securing the best possible offer for your property involves more than just timing; it's about presenting your home in the most appealing light.

At Anthony Jones, we are pleased to say we have helped many homeowners present their home well, and connect with buyers. If you’re looking to ring the changes this spring, we’re on hand to assist you as best we can.

Recent insights from a Paint and Colour Trends report by home remodelling experts Fixr for the year 2024 reveal interesting preferences that could influence buyer perceptions. A significant 53% of those surveyed indicated that the presence of red walls could deter their interest in a property.

Colours bring energy to a room

While red accents can inject a dash of romance and energy into a room, an expanse of red seems to overstep for many potential buyers. Lime green and bright yellow also join the list of less favoured hues, with 53% and 40% of respondents, respectively, finding these colours unappealing for home interiors. Even mustard yellow finds little favour, with 19% giving it a thumbs down. Surprisingly, pink and turquoise didn't resonate well with about 10% and 9% of the audience, respectively.

The report outlines six colours to sidestep when prepping your home for sale:

  • Red
  • Lime green
  • Bright yellow
  • Mustard yellow
  • Pink
  • Turquoise

In contrast, expert paint suppliers Tikkurila advocate for neutral shades to captivate a broader audience of potential buyers. The advice is clear: maintain a neutral and welcoming palette that allows buyers to envision themselves living in the space without the distraction of bold, personal colour choices. While more vivid colours can find their place in subtle accents, like cushions, keeping wall colours neutral is key to attracting interest.
